What’s the weirdest
coincidence of your life?
Mine comes courtesy of my friend Caitlyn, whose writing and appearance you’ve appreciated in this column in the past. She’s an actor type person and the coincidence comes courtesy of a performance she gave in one of my fav guilty TV pleasures–the now canceled TNT thieves-turned-altruists show, Leverage.
She appeared in a second-season episode called “The Runway Job”, which I happened to be watching on DVD on my computer one Saturday afternoon. Since I am the kind of geek who spends time listening to commentaries on TV shows, I was doing just that.
I wasn’t giving the show my entire attention, since I was “multitasking” with several different apps open on my computer as I watched/listened. One of them was Twitter, where I was keeping an eye on my timeline.
Which was what I was doing when Caitlyn appeared onscreen, which caused one of the participants of the commentary to speak up and say something like “This is Caitlyn Larimore, who was really great–” and which caused my jaw to drop when Caitlyn–who had no idea what I was up to–tweeted me at that exact moment.
I have no idea what the chances are that:
A) I personally knew a person who was in an episode of a TV show I owned on DVD
B) I decided to listen to the commentary for that episode on a whim
C) This person would get mentioned in the commentary, even though many actors with similarly sized parts failed to get the same acknowledgment
D) At the exact moment this person was mentioned in the commentary, she would reach out to me via social media, completely unaware of what was happening or that the commentary existed and she had been mentioned in it (I ended up having to tell her what they said)
But it happened and it still kinda freaks me out. Do you have anything that weird and random that’s happened to you? What’s the wildest coincidence you’ve ever experienced?
One that stands out for me is, I had all the Carlos Castaneda books at one point in my life, and read them over and over. Then I moved on in life and the books were loaned out and never came back, and about 20 years later, I was interested in re-reading them. I put out a call on Facebook to see if anyone had the first four books, but could only find one. So I went on ebay and found the first 4 for a reasonable price. I bought them, and when they arrived, I opened up the first… Read more »
That’s pretty funny Cat.
I am sure that I have other stories but this is the only one that comes to mine right now. This isn’t that weird but as a young freshmen in high school it rocked my little world. I was a Freshmen when my brother was a Senior. I sort of became a bit of a pet with some of the Seniors because of my older brother’s popularity. A number of his friends watched out for me and treated me like their kid sister. I was also on Student Council from my Freshmen year to my Senior. I developed a huge,… Read more »
