Matthew was featured on this week’s Fox 25‘s Good Men segment where he talks about what his article “Confessions of a Liar”:
I think what I was trying to get to was accountability. I think that men in general—I mean all of us, but men specifically—tend to play a lot of roles in life. And I kind of wanted to write an article that talked about being completely authentic. I think that authenticity and humility usually come from making lots of mistakes, playing roles. And I certainly was doing that most of my adult life.

For starters, please read his original piece in “The Good Men Project” (https://goodmenproject.com/ethics-values/confessions-of-a-liar/). He speaks quite honestly about the personal and painful toll of some of the choices he has made in his life, and he speaks courageously and eloquently about his choice to share with others the effects of those choices. Very well said, indeed. I was just about to read the original link. Then I came across The Dud’s comments (before scrolling further) and thought ‘uh oh, non-believer alert!’ Which is perfectly acceptable if you want to come from that perspective.

Listening to Mpiepenburg talk, I had an uneasy sense of yet another pose. I do applaud the sentiments; being `authentic’ is like being in favor of Mom and apple pie. But does he have to talk about it in front of a national audience ? Is his `conversion’ from a self-styled, jet-setting Charlie Sheen to the loving, kinder, humbler, more-in-touch Dad and husband something he should even be going to conferences about ?
