On a recent trip to Texas, I found myself at a flea market wandering the aisles of used books. Under a large blue tent, I was happily lost in a maze of titles and covers and that’s when it happened.
A fellow with a ten-gallon hat and side holster, unknowingly standing directly behind me, says “just who exactly is your favorite author?”
Things you need to know about me:
- I am not fond of being startled.
- Random questions (even about my favorite things come out as) “umm.”
- Men wearing giant hats while indoors, creep the heck out of me.
At a loss for words, I managed to mumble out the author’s name of the last book I read, “Michelle Obama.”
That’s when the man gave me his favorite bedtime storybook, it was Trumps’ book. To sum up a quick version of the exchange that followed, he said that “he can’t wait until they impeach Trump and that he will be on the frontlines of the civil war to come.”
This Trump supporter is planning for Trump’s inevitable impeachment, and the war to come between the Democrats and Republicans. What does that say about our President? His followers? And, more importantly, what does it say about all of us?
As fellow humans on this planet can’t we agree that a civil war is going to cause more problems than it will solve?
For the overly excited supporters of this kind of rhetoric, here are some things you can do instead of planning the demise of your neighbors, family, and friends:
- Texas is dirty. Help pick up some garbage and gain some pride for your state.
- Take up knitting. Obsessive people love knitting.
- Try Yoga. It’s hard to plan a war while doing downward dog.
- Volunteer in your community.
I do not fancy political babble. And when it’s coming from a Texan with a gun, I am getting the heck out of that situation. Never in my life did I think I’d be face to face with someone who’s excited to lead a civil war over a man sitting in the White House.
My takeaway from this little lesson is:
Instead of waiting for the fall of a President why don’t you do things to try to prevent that? Instead of preplanning a war, read some of your books and educate yourself.
