Do you remember growing pains when you were a kid? That aching burn as your bones elongated? It was your body changing into it’s more evolved state, so to speak. Emotional and mental growth can be just as painful and uncomfortable as the physical changes our bodies go through as children.
Any time we are pushing ourselves into some new and uncharted areas this discomfort is there. If you are wondering if you’re growing check in with your body. If you feel perfectly relaxed and at ease and comfortable then you are most definitely not in state of growth. (It’s perfectly fine if you aren’t, we all need down time.)
Self improvement will always be accompanied by uncomfortable feelings. Accepting and recognizing this discomfort is the best way I have found to move through it. Hesitation and second guessing will happen but if you really want to improve and grow then things are going to have to stretch and break and form in new ways.
Challenge yourself to one uncomfortable thing a week. It doesn’t have to be some grand moment. For me picking up the phone and talking to someone instead of sending an email. Where you’re at and how quickly your growing aren’t important as long as you keep moving forward. Little steps go a long way.
