Slowly, more athletes from top shelf schools and professional sports are coming out.
Every coming out is important. People realize that there is no one kind of gay person. Gay youth realize they are not alone. Gay adults can see how the world is changing.
Several years ago, Brian Sims, a player at Shippensburg University, came out to his teammates. The fact that this wasn’t a Division 1 school is irrelevant. It was still the hypermacho world of college football.
Not only did they support him, they did so in a way he never expected.
