John Zabasky grew up in Burtonsville, Maryland, where sports, family, and education shaped his early years. He was raised in a close-knit home with his sister. His father and grandfather were both firefighters in Washington, D.C., and his mother and grandmother looked after the family.
“I had a great childhood,” Zabasky says. “It was all about family dinners, playing sports, and reading.”
Baseball was his first passion. He excelled at it and dreamed of going pro. But a serious injury ended that dream. Instead of giving up, he turned his focus to school.
“That injury changed everything for me,” he recalls. “It showed me that sometimes life takes you in a different direction.”
How Education Shaped His Vision
Zabasky developed a love for learning early on. He credits his Great Aunt for inspiring his passion for history and reading. He earned both a BA and MA in History from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC). But he didn’t stop there.
“Education opens doors,” he says. “Once I saw what was possible, I wanted to keep going.”
He went on to earn an MBA from Pepperdine University and a PhD in Information Systems from Concordia. Today, he is working toward another PhD in Health Sciences from Liberty University.
Launching WorXsiteHR: Solving a Real Problem
In 2013, Zabasky founded WorXsiteHR Insurance Solutions, Inc. His goal was to tackle a tough issue: healthcare access for part-time, seasonal, and lower-income workers.
“Too many hardworking people can’t afford healthcare,” he says. “I wanted to fix that.”
He created the HealthWorX Plan, a no-cost healthcare program for employees. This plan is funded by a non-profit partner, making it accessible to those who need it most.
“We found a way to offer good healthcare without the high costs,” he explains.
The plan has helped thousands of workers across the United States. It’s especially popular among janitorial, retail, and agricultural employees.
“It feels great to know we’re helping people stay healthy and worry less,” Zabasky says.
A Commitment to Giving Back
Zabasky’s impact goes beyond business. His non-profit donates over $100 million in healthcare services and premiums every year.
“Helping others isn’t just something I do for work,” he says. “It’s something I believe in.”
This commitment to giving back is at the core of everything he does.
Why John Zabasky Believes in Big Ideas
Zabasky says his success comes from sticking to simple values: hard work, education, and helping others.
“Big ideas are important,” he says. “But they only work if you follow through.”
He often reminds others that success isn’t always easy or quick. It takes persistence and the ability to adjust.
“Life doesn’t go as planned,” he says. “You have to adapt and keep moving forward.”
He knows this firsthand. His baseball dreams were cut short, but he used that setback to fuel his education and later his career.
What Drives John Zabasky Outside of Work
When he isn’t leading his company or working on his next degree, Zabasky enjoys sports and outdoor activities.
“Golf, bodybuilding, baseball, and boating keep me grounded,” he shares.
He believes in balancing work and fun.
“You can’t just work all the time,” he says. “You need to make space for what you love.”
Lessons From His Journey
John Theodore Zabasky’s story is about more than business success. It shows how education, resilience, and big ideas can come together to make a difference.
“My goal has always been simple,” he says. “Help people live better lives.”
His path proves that setbacks can lead to new opportunities. His work has changed healthcare access for thousands of people.
“You never know where life will take you,” he says. “But if you work hard and stay focused, you can make an impact.”
John Theodore Zabasky continues to bring big ideas to life, one step at a time.
