Itās been a couple of weeks since I decided to take a break from writing and posting on social media, and I can see now that it was a great decision.
Sometimes, you have to recognize when your work/life balance is stretching you too thin and make the call to ease the pressure where you can.
While I was gone, I turned 48 years old, and we celebrated as a family like we have done since we first separated in 2014. I thought Iād share a photo, even though my kids would kill me if they knew. Itās our secret.
The best thing about taking some time to focus solely on coaching and family is that I feel refreshed and inspired. That was the point of taking the break, so Iām labelling it a success.
I have just finalised packages with two of my coaching clients, which has made me reflect on my decision to retrain as a divorce coach in my forties.
I knew going into divorce coaching that it would have a positive impact on many peopleās lives, but I underestimated its impact.
And thatās an incredible deal.
When you follow your passions, you have no idea where they will lead you. It takes guts to jump in and say, āF**k it, Iām gonna do it,ā even though you have no guarantee of the outcome.
Iām starting to see the difference that coaching can make in peopleās divorce journeys, and Iām completely fired up now.
The difference between the people who tentatively get on their first discovery call and the confident and happier people who complete their coaching packages is incredible!
Iām humbled each and every time I have a session with someone who is willing to face what needs to be faced and do the work to get to a better place for themselves and their children.
At the moment, Iām coaching someone who is dealing with her ex-husbandās new partner becoming part of their family life.
Dealing with your exās new partner is one of the hardest parts of the divorce experience, and my client is doing an incredible job of recognizing what she can and canāt control in the process.
I see in her now the confidence that wasnāt there when we first started working together.
She contacted me in the first few months of her separation and then again recently when her ex-husband told her he had met someone and wanted to introduce her to their children.
To say she is kicking ass right now is an understatement. A true testament to the power of someone holding space for her to find what she needs within herself to navigate this time like a boss.
Yes, there are down times and hard days, of course. But working with a coach has accelerated her ability to access the courage, wisdom and determination that she has inside her.
I only have to sit and think for a minute or two to be transported back into the anxious, confused, broken person who was facing the trauma of my own marriage dissolving in front of my eyes ten years ago.
Not to mention the incredibly challenging experience I went through when I had to meet my ex-husbandās new partner and make space for her in our lives.
I still canāt believe that I made it through one agonizing day after another, stumbling and weak. I honestly thought I was never going to break free of the sadness and guilt that weighed on me for so many years.
I wish to god Iād had a good coach back then.
Although friends can be there for you, they can find it hard to be impartial. Not to mention that they have their own lives and struggles to deal with. Sometimes, it can be hard to ask for help when you see that people have their plates full.
Having a divorce coach who has been through it all makes a huge difference in how quickly you can understand and recognize what is happening to you.
From there, you can implement the steps to move through each stage and phase faster than you would without a coach.
A coaching package with me can be a powerful kick-start to face the coming years of co-parenting and recovering from your divorce in the strongest, healthiest way possible.
If youāve been thinking about investing in your recovery and well-being by working with a divorce coach, now is a great time to do it!
