Ever since Bree Larsen was seen on set in her Captain Marvel uniform everyone has been eagerly awaiting a trailer for the first female led (yeah 10 years & 20 films late but what can you do?) 2019 movie Captain Marvel. Since [Infinity War Spoiler]
Marvel teased us with Nick Fury’s disembodiement dropping a souped-up 90’s era NEXTEL pager flasing a Kree Battle Insigina logo at the end of Infinity War, the internet has gone bananas and it’s generated some awesome Carol Danvers Kelly Mc Cormic iteration cosplaying of what Kevin Feigie has been quoted saying is “The MCU’s newest and most powerful hero”.
Finally, on September 4, 2018, Captain Marvel herself cryptically posted on Twitter that she was looking for something to do the next day.
Here’s the cover with Brie Larson in her signature Marvel uniform. Bree Larson isn’t a model, she’s an actress and she’s much more athleticly built than this highly photoshopped cover.
Here’s a still from the film. You be the judge
So, the cover was probably my least favorite image. Now, I get that covers are typically photoshopped like crazy but I think Marvel needs to be careful not to mishandle this roll out. Most likely it’s an Editor from Entertainment Weekly that made these decisions.
I was most exited by the inclusion of Maria Rambeau Carol’s Air Force Wingman who’s the mother of Monica Rambeau.
a Black female superhero from the comics worn electromagnetic based powers named “Photon” She was named Captain Marvel in The Amazing Spider-Man Annual #16. Monica will also appear in the film, according to Entertainment Weekly.
Entertainment Weekly provided 10 other images. Jude Law as Mar-Vell, Ronan the Accuser (Lee Pace) (yeah he was an unhinged Kree Zelaot employed by Thanos and killed at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy by the Power Stone, but this movie is set in the 90’s so Ronan lives!) the Skrulls. Turns out when the movie begins she’s part of The Kree Star-Force. The tone of the film is a “Terminator 2 / Top Gun” vibe which is my wheelhouse! The Star-Force is an intergalactic militia kind of like the Green Lantern Corps or the Kree-Avengers and Mar-Vel (Jude Law) Korath (Dijman Honsu) And there is a Secret Invasion sub-plot (YASSS!)
