‘Sleepless’ Is a Flawed film, but some people will like it
I am a fan of Jamie Foxx. Ever since he was on In Living Color I have enjoyed his work. For a long time all he did was comedies, but a number of years ago he broke out of that mold. His performance in Ray was one of his best to date. So when I heard about Sleepless, I was looking forward to seeing it. It was not what I expected it to be. I was able to get a review copy and here is what I thought of it.
You can read the plot for Sleepless here:
Undercover Las Vegas police officer Vincent Downs (Jamie Foxx) finds himself caught in a high-stakes web of corrupt cops, internal affairs and murderous gangsters. When a failed heist leads to the kidnapping of his teenage son (Octavius J. Johnson), Downs must race against time during a wild and restless night to save him and bring the criminals to justice.
Sleepless is not that great of a movie. It has a slow plot that really drags this movie down. There is an incident early on in this film that sets the whole thing in motion, but it hurts the story more than it should. It isn’t until about half way through the movie that things get explained, and by then it is kind of too late. It isn’t the fault of the cast, they did the best they could with what they were given. There is a lot of action and some good looking fight scenes, but they aren’t always necessary. Not one of the worst films I have seen recently, but not a great one either.
