Joe Byrne is an multi award winning, poet, writer, actor and filmmaker from Dublin. In his work, Joe tries to through the façade of prescribed realities to paint a poignant picture of how life is. In 2018 he wrote “Big Boys Don’t Cry”, which contains a powerful message about male mental health. The accompanying video, which was Joe’s directorial debut, went viral and amassed over 75,000 views online.
In January 2019, “Big Boy’s Don’t Cry” won first prize in the inaugural Video Poem category at the Doolin Literary Festival. Success has been a close friend to Joe of late. The Circle Sessions poetry open mic, which is held predominantly at the International Bar in Dublin, awarded Joe male Poet of the Year 2018. Currently putting the finishing touches to his debut collection of poetry, launching in the spring of 2019, Joe Byrne is certainly a talent to keep an eye out for.
