Reading helps one organize not only business processes but also life in general. And useful books are not limited to only popular science literature. Serhiy Tokarev, an IT businessman and co-founder of the Roosh investment group, told Forbes Ukraine about his recommendations that can come in handy for everyone.
“I believe that, first of all, we need to improve our way of thinking. That is why it is important to read not only business books but also philosophical, scientific, and specifically, fiction books as well,” the entrepreneur emphasizes.
Serhiy Tokarev shares five books that helped him organize his work and personal life, find balance, and achieve maximum efficiency in business.
“Getting Things Done. The Art of Stress-Free Productivity” by David Allen
In the book, the author introduces readers to the Getting Things Done system, which aims to increase human productivity and reduce stress while organizing and completing tasks.
Here are some of the basic principles of the methodology:
- Write down all the tasks that appear and describe in detail the actions required to complete them.
- Sort tasks by priority and review this list regularly.
- Complete tasks when you have enough time and resources.
“The main idea of the book is that our minds are inefficient at storing and reminding us of all tasks. Allen offers a system that helps free the mind from the need to remember every little thing, allowing it to focus on completing tasks,”explains Serhiy Tokarev.
“Quantum Warrior: The Future of the Mind” by John Kehoe
This book combines scientific information and spiritual teachings, and it is through this combination that readers will be able to improve themselves and improve the quality of their lives. The author draws attention to the fact that thoughts are a powerful tool in achieving the desired changes.
“Quantum Warrior” convinces us that everyone has the potential to create their own reality.
“Zero to One: Notes on Startups, or How to Build the Future” by Peter Thiel and Blake Masters
Serhiy Tokarev emphasizes that this book inspired him to develop innovative solutions and showed him how important a creative approach to business is.
The authors are convinced that real success is not about repeating what already exists (going from 1 to n) but about creating something new, i.e. going from zero to one. In the book, Peter Thiel and Blake Masters share their insights and thoughts on how to create a successful project and develop it in the future.
“The Lean Startup. How Constant Innovation Creates Radically Successful Business” by Eric Ries
In this book, Eric Ries offers a new perspective on creating startups, managing them, and accelerating new product development. This is the approach that Serhiy Tokarev uses in his projects.
“Ries introduces the concept of a “lean startup” that emphasizes the importance of creating minimum viable products (MVPs), getting quick customer feedback, and iterative design. This helps to use resources more efficiently, adapt quickly to changes, and minimize the risks of failure,”the entrepreneur says.
“The Box: How the Shipping Container Made the World Smaller and the World Economy Bigger” by Marc Levinson
“This book emphasized for me the value of innovation to increase efficiency, focusing on the importance of adapting to changes in the business environment and using new technologies to optimize processes,“ explains the investor.
The book introduces the idea of a standardized shipping container proposed by entrepreneur Malcolm McLean, which was the beginning of large-scale changes in the transportation industry.
Marc Levinson explores not only the technical and economic but also the social aspects of this process. The author emphasizes that efficiency can be expensive, but inefficiency is even more expensive.
