We might think that we know all the facts of the world, but there are many hidden facts we need to still discover. Scientists work around the clock to bring more facts to the light and many times it is the complete opposite to our believes. The world remains a mystery, but we can learn a few things by the facts already discovered. These facts will change the way you see the world and open your eyes to another level. Let’s get into it.
Trees = Life
In the Indian village of Piplantri, when a girl is born, the residents plant 111 trees to honor her. Over the past 6 years, this village has gained over a quarter of a million new trees. This is such a beautiful act because it is usually said that there is no honor when a baby girl is born. This tradition was started by one of the villagers who lost his own daughter. In memory of her he planted trees around the village and started this beautiful tribute to all girls born in this village. The wonderful thing about this tradition is what happens between the villagers and the parents of this baby girl. They are requested to sign an affidavit which states that they will not let the girl get married before coming of age. The girl should receive education and take care of all the trees planted in her honor. It is a beautiful tradition and shows that all lives matter.
Imagine you’re standing outside and all of a sudden it starts raining. That seems like a pretty normal day. Now, imagine the raindrops are diamonds. Immediately, your day would seem a whole lot better. If you want to experience this kind of phenomenon, you should relocate to Saturn or Jupiter. Highly compressed heated carbon is what forms diamonds and dense atmospheric planets like Saturn and Jupiter; scientists believe that the clouds naturally hold diamonds formed under these conditions. Now if only some of those raindrops would make its way to earth.
Honey ages well
What would a hot bowl of oatmeal be without a drizzle of honey? Do you ever check the expiry date on your honey container? Save yourself some trouble and let that go. Did you know that honey does not spoil many years? It seems kind of ridiculous, because we are so use to food going bad and religiously check the expiry date. When you have honey in its natural form, you may be surprised that it contains very little moisture. Bacteria simply cannot live in such conditions so it is never formed. It is quit fascinating if you think about it, but even the way honey is created is fascinating to us all.
Snails are superheroes
Snails have really come a long way in the way we perceive them. First, we were disgusted by the slimy texture trail they leave behind and then they became a famous delicacy served in many restaurants. The slime that a snail leaves behind is so think that it can move over a razor blade without a scratch. Scientists are still to give serious feedback on how it is possible, but there are many things we should just leave to nature.
Languages
It is a dream or goal of many to learn a new language and it may be more beneficial than you think. Even though it seems natural for bilingual individuals to switch between languages, there is something that happens in the brain for the switch to actually happen. Try to do some integrated writing and switch between two languages. If you are not fluent in that language, you will realize that it takes your brain twice the amount of time to get it right. Studies have found that speaking more than one language can prevent or delay Alzheimer’s. It does make sense, because with this condition it is always advisable to prevent than cure.
Oxford English Dictionary
Back in the day before the internet took over our lives, we would go to the dictionary to look up words we did not know. The Oxford dictionary is probably one of the most popular dictionaries in the world. Did you know that part of the dictionary was written by a murderer while in a mental asylum? One would not think that a mentally disturbed murderer would be able to write such a highly valued piece of information. It almost sounds like an accidental inventions research paper if you think about it. William Chester, an American surgeon, who lived during the civil war. This is exactly what drove him delusional and causes him to shoot a man he thought had broken into his house. Being in a mental facility, he had a lot of time to read and thus began writing the Oxford dictionary.
Owls and their pets
Owls are fascinating birds and seem to do everything in the opposite was as others. For years, we have seen them as somewhat mystical creatures and now we have to learn that they keep snakes as pets? They actually do this to rid them of larvae and parasites so that their babies become stronger and have a longer life. There seems to be an understanding between owls and snakes and the snakes do not seem to mind.
Salt can sweeten
We use salt in most of our dishes and seem to enhance flavors more than any other condiment out there. Did you know that adding salt to a pineapple can in fact bring out the sweetness in the pineapple? It sounds kind of strange and untrue because of the taste of salt. If you do not believe this fact, I encourage you to try it out and be pleasantly amazed.
Extra Fact
Did you ever take a good look at a barcode? I am sure you notice the black stripes, but a barcode reader actually focuses on the white parts of the barcode and not the black part. Fascinating isn’t it?
