Retreating into Damp and Shady Refugia

The moisture lovers of the ecology are feeling the edges of their own mortality as the drought continues.

These sanctuaries become ever more contracted and fewer in number, yet they continue to fill with the refugees of the mountain.

The predators know this too and they close in to slake their own ravening thirst.

For now the promise of the rains has receded over the far western horizon and this hope has been replaced by dazzling blue sky bereft of cloud.
