Every man has is his journey, or life would be boring and predictable. Cut from a different cloth, with a different set of talents and goals, his mission may not align with everyone but the road to success may be familiar territory. That road, which few see because the finished product is what attracts is the substance that defines every man. It’s the journey that leads to success.
Personally, I’ve never viewed success as a linear concept or set of rules that if followed will guarantee a perceived reward. And as experts will tell you, there’s nothing further from the truth. Because true success comes from the small tasks we commit to every day.
Let’s take an infant learning to walk, for example. They start off on all fours, making their way around a room while others stand and walk before them with no complication. Over time the baby gives it a try, then falls back down: this continues over and over again.
Now, if that baby were to one day wake up and decide not to walk, do you think they would ever learn? Probably not.
The same concept applies to life, regardless of your craft.
In life, we have a choice to decide what it is we want to do. If we hate it, our subconscious will tell us so and we quit. When passion is involved, we become fluid and persistent. We continue this trend which leads to minor accomplishments, coupled by failures and most certainly doubt. But things get better.
What’s more, the days you fail are more important than the days you flourish. Yes, failure feels like a step back but it is a learning process. It’s the only way to narrow down what works from what doesn’t.
As Thomas Edison once said, “I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.”
He and countless pioneers have failed countless times without our knowing. It’s the common thread among them all, along with a desire to set new goals after one is met.
This keeps them sharp, motivated and maintains a student mentality so that at no moment will they reach a point where they feel their job is done.
Success is a culmination of small things that if performed daily over a period of time leads to long-term happiness. That’s all it is and why it’s possible for everyone.
