Great leadership begins with the notion that success is a shared reward. Without a team effort, opportunities might just pass by your door without stopping.
People become great leaders because they realize the value of embracing the role without becoming tyrants. How often have you worked in an organization under an individual who rules with an iron fist? Perhaps you’ve been subjected to harsh and unreasonable treatment? Maybe you’ve been forced to work in an oppressive environment.
I continue to see an increase in the number of people who wear the ‘leadership’ tag without displaying any of the pre-requisite qualities. They often find themselves in the position through a system of elevation due to a number of sometimes inconsistent processes.
A leadership position shouldn’t be considered a rite of passage. No-one is ‘entitled’ to step into a leadership role simply because of time spent in a support position or through the idiotic process of nepotism. A leadership role should be earned through hard work, vision, positive interaction and the formulation of great ideas and notions for the good of the business and the employees.
Great leaders lift others to extraordinary heights. They can make the workplace an extraordinarily rich and powerful environment. It can be a happy and harmonious place to be.
The attitude within a workplace is a direct reflection of the quality of the leadership. Sure there might be times when it’s busy and often under pressure, but there is never a plausible reason why it needs to be filled with negativity and stress. The atmosphere within therefore is a product of that leadership.
I have worked within an organization where the ‘manager’ (I could never refer to him as a leader) was loathed by employees, to such an extent that many good people resigned, taking their skills and experience with them.
This man was egotistical and conceited. He displayed none of the fundamental qualities of leadership. It’s very sad to see an individual who is totally oblivious to the reckless nature of his/her own narrow-minded, self-absorbed behavior, blind to the needs of the organization and the workforce under his/her direct control.
I would be heartbroken if I worked in a place where I was despised because of my behavior. I would hope I’d have the common sense to listen to the feedback and take steps to change …

I would be heartbroken if I worked in a place where I was despised because of my behavior. I would hope I’d have the common sense to listen to the feedback and take steps to change if my conduct was affecting those under my supervision. It would be far worse if I was unable to see it or refused to do anything about it.
Great leaders work with all levels of the organization to make it positive, rich and ultimately successful. They have at their fingertips, an amazing opportunity to make a difference and lift any business to amazing heights. There is no room in a progressive organization for an individual who is self-centered and narcissistic.
Individuals who aspire to leadership positions have a desire to actively and positively impact others. This is place where they can make a real difference. They have the opportunity to empower the workplace and assist others to grow and evolve.
The following points will assist in empowering the workplace, enriching others and adding value to your life and future:-
- Be compassionate
- Allow others a point of view
- Be accepting of differing opinions
- Communicate effectively
- Avoid confrontation without a positive purpose
- Permit others to stand in the spotlight
- Be tolerant and considerate of others
Leadership is about support, assistance, and encouragement. It initiates a clear vision and shared enthusiasm. It implies and engenders mutual respect.
Great leaders always embrace life’s positive and life-enriching qualities. They do not shirk their responsibilities, but continue to do the best they can with the skills they have. These qualities cross borders into their personal lives, where they continue to enrich their families and the communities in which they live.
There is no time like the present to embrace the opportunities to assist and support others. In this amazing place, great leaders become an extraordinary force for good in the global community.
Imagine the possibilities ….

This is good advice. part of giving good feedback is knowing yourself and how you communicate. I really appreciate this. thanks
