Caring for your children and being vigilant about their welfare is part of being a better man. While parenting entails a cornucopia of epochal aspects, comfortable and safe sleepwear for your child is an element that requires careful deliberation. Though there are many outlets that sell flame retardant clothing and FR garments such as Froutlet, selecting the best sleepwear with flame-resistant attributes takes due diligence.
Awareness Regarding Sleepwear Safety Standards
As parents, you need to have a limpid understanding of the safety regulations for kid’s clothing, especially sleepwear, so that you know the fabric, weight, and labels you should choose. These days, most accessories for children such as car seats, nursing pillows, carpets, crib mattresses and table mats come equipped with FR treatment for protection against hazards like fires and burns. Before selecting a specific design, conduct a thorough research to familiarize yourself with the safety standards for sleepwear and carefully examine the label on each garment such as robes, pajamas, union-style garments and nightgowns that provides a description of the type and quantity of flame retardant chemicals used. All FR bedtime apparels for kids have to comply with flammability testing standards set by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) before they are released in the market.
What Are The Health Risks Involved
The CPSC has made it a requirement that all flame resistant chemicals used to treat children’s sleepwear should be non-toxic, however, producers of FR garments are not essentially required to mention the chemicals used for inducing flame-resistant properties in nightgowns, shirts, and pajamas. Generally, these chemicals are inorganic flame resistant compounds like phosphate-based compounds and antimony oxide including halogenated hydrocarbons like bromine and chlorine. These can sometimes cause skin irritation for kids because they generate gas in the air that is inhaled by children. Synthetic polyester garments crafted using inherent FR treatment at the molecular level is a safer option for kid’s sleepwear, which makes these chemical retardants more stable and non-toxic as they are a part of the molecular composition of the polyester. It’s also important to select the right size and weight because these fabrics usually entail poor breathability which can cause skin rashes to kids and heat-ups.
What Options For FR Sleepwear Are Available
You should have an idea about the safe FR sleepwear options available to you for the kid’s safety. Look for online guides to FR clothing, especially bedtime apparels, and ask an FR expert at any outlet to provide you with options relative to your kid’s FR needs. Remember to buy garments that are FR polyester sleepwear designed using inherent flame resistant techniques. If you wish to avoid FR entirely and go for alternatives, then opt for fitted cotton sleep apparels like long johns that have the label ‘Wear snug-fitting. Not flame resistant’ as recommended by Toxics Information Project because this is a requirement of the CPSC as well. A 1976 ruling required all kid’s sleepwear to be designed using FR fabric but that was overturned by the CPSC’s ruling that allowed non-FR garments as long as they were made of specific cotton fabric and fit the kids comfortably.
