The human body is a work of art often taken for granted. It is structured to efficiently function for a person’s survival. Even with decades of research and experiments, many unknowns exist about the human body.
You can even discover new things about your body you never realized before. Here are some secret body surprises you might not know about.
1. Throat Seizing up After a Workout Is Asthma
Running hard can sometimes make you lose your breath, especially if you’re not used to physical activities like working out. It’s an entirely different thing if you feel your throat seizing up, and there’s pain that comes with the wheezing. It may be asthma, and you’d need to go for a checkup just to be sure.
2. Strange Blood Vessels on the Face
Your face is the major aesthetic of your body, but if you look more closely, you will see large pores and blood vessels. Some have more fascinating compositions than others, with numerous veins in their faces, and they’re interesting to look at when magnified.
3. Having 16 Wisdom Teeth
Most people grow at most four wisdom teeth in their lives. If you have more than that, you belong to the few with what’s known as supernumerary teeth.
Some people even claim to have 16 wisdom teeth, top and bottom, with some growing sideways. This is absolutely surprising and can only be discovered when you visit your dentist.
4. Bad Ankles
Many illnesses are due to the unlucky raffle of your gene pool. One good example is having bad ankles. You may have bad ankles even if no one in your family, immediate or extended, has them.
Chances are, someone in the family had one somewhere down the line, and you were the unlucky person to get it.
5. Having a Sealed Second Uterus
If you experience painful cramping and severe constipation during your menstruation, visit your OB/GYN to check on your situation. One of the possible causes of this is having a second uterus, however weird that sounds. The second uterus may be sealed and so would require surgery to get rid of the pain and the danger, and so that you won’t need painkillers.
6. Having a Double Uvula
Some people have two uvulas in their throats. The uvula is the tissue hanging at the back of the throat. It helps keep the mouth and throat moist through saliva secretion and keeps food going through the throat, not your nose.
7. Brain Never Stopping Is a Sign of Hyperactivity
It might be a sign of hyperactivity when you always find yourself wide awake at night with your brain working nonstop. It refers to the condition when you tend to move around, whether it’s in the form of tapping, fidgeting, or talking. In many cases, it can be as discreet as restlessness, with your brain being unable to stop running.
8. Having a Third Nipple
If you’re a fan of the TV show “Friends,” then you know that it’s possible to have a third nipple with the character of Chandler Bing having one. Someone who doesn’t know about this possibility can just believe that what they have is a large mole. Luckily, surgery removes it easily, so it’s not a big deal.
9. The Left Eye Has a Vision Defect
The human eye is magnificent, especially its ability to adjust based on what’s needed. This is why detecting when one eye has a vision defect can be difficult. Once an eye has a defect, the other tries to compensate with what’s lacking that you would end up not realizing there’s a problem in the first place. That’s until you go and get fitted for a pair of glasses.
10. Feeling Itchy When It’s Hot
Feeling itchy is normal, especially when you have skin issues like psoriasis, scabies, or eczema. It’s an entirely different thing if it’s your entire body, especially when you get overheated without any rash appearing. Sadly, this may mean you have an internal disease like liver or kidney disease. The best thing to do is to go for a checkup.
11. Having Cataplexy
Have you ever experienced feeling weak on your hands when you’re laughing hard? You’re not just being clumsy. There’s a chance that you have cataplexy.
Cataplexy is a sudden muscle tone loss, where you will feel a weakness or lack of control over your muscles. The condition is caused by sudden intense emotion, so when you laugh, you lose your grip on the items you hold.
12. Excellent Toe Dexterity
If you’ve been to a circus, you’ve probably come across contortionists who can bend and twist their bodies flexibly and dramatically. Some can be a contortionist, while others have limited toe dexterity. Only a few people can extend their toes like monks.
