Elevate the quality of your life whilst unlocking your true potential.
Sometimes we can just be so caught up in the motion and flow of life that we don’t realize that we have lowered our standards or have low standards in life.
It is so easy to lose sight of these standards amidst the hustle and bustle.
We end up settling for mediocrity and question why aspects of our lives are not enhancing the way we want them to.
One thing I will always advise people is don’t settle for less. There is always room for growth, improvement and enhancing your life.
But it all comes down to you and if you wish to foster strategies to take control of your life.
Define Your Expectations
Dive deep into what you expect from life based on what you want from life.
Having expectations can be a killer sometimes. Therefore I urge you to define expectations that are realistic but also in line with your wants in life. Look into the different expectations when it comes to your career, family, relationship, finances, etc.
How do you do this?
- Reflect on your values and understand what truly matters to you
- Write down your expectations (don’t just leave them in your brain)
- Regularly revisit this list of expectations and refine them as you continue to grow.
Make Self-Respect Number 1
Prioritize yourself because unfortunately in life your job will forget about you for their own needs, your partner will prioritize their needs, your kids will do what they want. So why should you not also prioritize yourself?
You also need to treat yourself with kindness and dignity, so that people bounce off your energy and also value you. And if people don’t want to be around you because of this — to hell with them!
How do you do this?
- Practice self-compassion and self-care regularly
- Set clear boundaries
- Communicate your boundaries and expectations
Always Keep Learning
The world is moving fast and that means we all need to keep up with it. And the only way to do this is to keep learning. And I don’t mean you need to learn about generative AI and ChatGPT. I mean learning about all aspects of life, whether it’s learning a new language or how to sew.
Always stay curious, open-minded and ahead of the curve.
How do you do this?
- Read a few pages of a book a day
- Put some time aside for self-development
- Seek out a mentor in an area that interests you
Stay Consistent
How many of us have put together a list of New Year resolutions and have reformed back to type? I can definitely say I have. Staying consistent is a task in itself. It requires a lot of discipline.
Consistency is greater than motivation because naturally we’re not always going to feel motivated but if we commit to what we said we will — we will eventually reap the benefits.
How do you do this?
- Plan your daily, weekly and monthly goals
- Eliminate distractions that can take away from your achieving these goals
- Monitor your progress and adjust as time goes on
Change Your Circle
Who you choose to surround yourself highly determines the person you will become. Your peers influence your standard of living. I’m not saying that you need to cut out your friends, but what I am saying is that you need to have different horses for different courses.
Choose people who inspire you, who share the same values as you, who are supportive and encourage your growth.
How do you do this?
- Reflect on your current social circle and determine what changes need to be made
- Seek out like-minded individuals or groups that align with your goals.
- Maintain different friendship groups for different things.
You Are 5 Steps Closer
And just like that, with these 5 simple steps, you have improved the standard of your life.
Although these steps are simple, they require time and processing to ensure the output is effective. Do not make quick hasty decisions when determining these 5 steps.
Sit back, think about it, reflect and review.
It can change the next 5 months of your life.
