Isn’t it interesting?
How carefully they push you aside
When they think
You are reaching the end of the ride?
You feel able to live
Just as before,
But they say
“No, not anymore.”
Dropping your head
You stare at the ground
And think to yourself,
“I can still get around.”
They smile, nod,
And pat you on the back.
While, at the same time,
Thinking about all that you lack.
You walk away,
Under your own power,
Looking at your watch
To check on the hour.
You know you are old,
Maybe even elderly.
You are a little smaller and slower
Than you used to be.
So, you turn around
And hurry away.
Just as an unseen curb
Ruins your day.
