Hello, my name is anonymous, and I am an Alcoholic.
I am
An Appointed,
ILlegal substance,
Abuser Cheated Outwardly Human, Opposed
Of Lack of
Verbal Interaction with
My Children.
Truth is, I’m perfectly fine.
I have 2 sons and a daughter,
whom I’ve had two male sperms inside of me.
Son 1 is old enough,
Son 2 has ADHD,
And only daughter is brat like me.
And truth is, I’m perfectly fine.
5 years ago I left the love of my life.
The fists to my face leaving black eyes,
Swimming around a bucket of bees to retrieve this sweet life I so deserved.
With his perfect hands,
chest,
pecks,
smile,
equilateral eyes,
chiseled chin,
and Ryan Gosling voice,
singing peacefully to me,
Everything will be okay.
But in reality,
it was a La La Land.
The kisses to my legs left permanent paint marks,
the handling of letters engraved paper cuts,
the warmness of hugs imprinted my heart,
A road roller flattening out the surface of cement.
And truth is, I’m perfectly fine,
or at least,
the AA meeting tells me that because I really don’t have to be here.
I met a new man,
gigantic as a Valentine’s teddy bear from Costco.
He’s the size of the moon and as warm as the sun,
He reminds me of me when he wants to keep our baby daughter and spoil her all to himself.
With his Winnie the Pooh bear eyes
he wrapped me in a blanket of,
“You snooze, you lose”.
Added a dollop of honey,
pinched goose feathers all around me,
and grabbed the permanent marker he used to write “Honey” on the jar.
“Alcoholic”,
“Liar”,
“Cheater”,
“Outrageous”
“Inhumane”
“Ostentatious”,
“UnreLiable”
“Infectious”
“Cunt”,
appeared as a list upon my face of despair.
I couldn’t jog,
hug my children,
Eat with calm,
sleep with safety,
or be anywhere by myself.
And the honest truth is, I am perfectly fine.
Thank you,
And I will see you next week.

POPS is a high school club that welcomes all those whose lives have been touched by prison. We offer a space where members are encouraged to write, talk and paint their truths. At POPS we thrive on seeing the world as it is while imagining it as it could be. We are creating hope by tackling shame and fear. We are building a community based on dignity and openness.
