No matter our religious affiliation or lack thereof, this time of year is a chance to reflect on our highest values.
When we count what we are thankful for in November, then move to what we love by late December, we are going through a re-evaluation of what we are becoming. Will we merely repeat last year’s dogma, or will we set a course that we choose anew?
One person in a thousand will read this today and decide to strike out alone, embracing their ability to trust their own insights, chart their own courses of action, and become that most solitary of creatures: an honorable person.
This is not about New Year’s resolutions; it is about becoming the person you started out to be. It is about saying “no” to the dealers and dreamers, con men and schemers. It is about knowing that good things do not come to you but from you.
So here’s to the warriors–those who will insist on living the truth, protecting the weak, and uplifting the noble. Whose days are driven by becoming instead of merely being?
All who are excellent are excellent in the same way; the mediocre and lawless live in a unique and private misery of their own making.
The coming year will be fraught with warnings for the fearful but will be led by the hearts of the fearless.
