Thoughts become things. I can’t stress this enough. Thoughts become things.
It’s Law of Attraction 101: what you think, you become.
- If you think you’re a worthless piece of garbage, you’ll be a worthless piece of garbage.
- If you think you’re a badass of love, you’ll be a badass of love.
Let me let you in on a little life coaching inside baseball. We only have one responsibility to the world – to live rich, full, powerful, and fulfilling lives. This allows us to be examples to our clients, and it allows us to put our greatness on display.
Doing things outside of our comfort zones means that we’re doing things worthy of the lives we’re out to live.

Plus it also means that we’re living lives worthy of who we are and our greatness.
Y’know, no big whoop.
But this means that we need to do things from time to time way outside of our comfort zones. Doing things outside of our comfort zones means that we’re doing things worthy of the lives we’re out to live.
The feeling of peace and the feeling of accomplishment that one gets after doing something out of our comfort zone is immeasurable. And I jumped right into the deep end of that pool last week.
I was invited to speak to a networking organization here in Westchester County, New York last week. I spoke about how to set smart, actionable goals. Using the energy of the new year as a backdrop.
This is something I have done before. I put on two workshops in a small cabaret back home in Alabama in 2016. The most attended one of my workshops was I believe eight people.
Two showed up the second time.
In other words, I haven’t exactly spoken in front of decent-sized audiences.
I sure did last Thursday.
I walked into this little Italian restaurant not knowing what to expect. I saw a full parking lot (a small parking lot to be sure, but it was full…ish.)
Walking into the little banquet room, I saw maybe 20 people. These were all business owners who paid money to be able to network on a Thursday afternoon.
I’d been quite nervous before I left my car. And in the past, I’d let my anxiety get the better of me. That’s what had been predictable for me previously.
To combat this, I did two things before I left my car.
First, I put on a short, guided meditation that really helped to center me.
And then I pressed play on my favorite pump up song of all time. Nothing in the history of music gets me jacked up and in the zone, more than this song.
I thumbed through my Spotify library and found the song I was looking for.
There’s just something about Yea Alabama – the University of Alabama fight song – that gets me going. But it’s not simply the song, but it’s the first five notes.
Full disclosure: I just got a lump in my throat writing about this.
There’s a punchline to this. If you read to the end of this piece, I’ll share it with you.
This is a good one.
I usually have my weekly session with my coach on Thursday morning. And the state of mind I brought into our call was rather confrontational, and not very coachable.
About halfway through the call, my coach Lisa reflected something to me that really shook me. This is a paraphrase, but she said to me, “you’re taking this on voluntarily. Nobody’s holding a gun to your head. Why are you sabotaging yourself before you even get there?”
Again, this is a paraphrase based on my interpretation of what she said. And this is also a retrospective reflection.
But she had a point. I took this on. I saw a thing on Facebook asking for speakers about certain subjects. And I chose to speak about goal setting.
I didn’t think I’d get a follow up. I didn’t know any of the people in this organization from Adam’s housecat prior to my conversations with the event’s host.
And even almost a year in, I’m still looking to build a name for myself up here in New York. I need to build a network in order to build the businesses I want to build.
When Lisa said what she said to me, I just had a moment of reflection. After I got off the call, I said to myself, “this ain’t that deep. You got this. You’re prepared. Your presentation is more than solid. And you’re ready. Go knock ‘em dead.”
Let’s flash forward a couple hours later. I went into the presentation and absolutely killed it. I was smart, smooth, and effective.
Was I perfect? Nope! But that was never the goal.
But I was certainly effective.
In fact, one of the participants who came to the presentation said to me, simply, “you’re an impressive guy.”
I knew I was there for a reason. And everything that has happened for me since then has been because I have been in that frame of mind. Thoughts become things.

Because I am. I have an impressive background, story, and presentation. But what got it across was this – I wasn’t even trying. This was just Ryan at his natural best.
I knew I was there for a reason. And everything that has happened for me since then has been because I have been in that frame of mind.
Thoughts become things.
{insert record scratch sound effect}
Maybe not so much with the getting laid up last weekend with that rotten flu that’s been going around. I reckon staying clear of that nastiness wasn’t a thing I thought. It blindsided me, to be sure.
Back to my speaking engagement: I knew I was there for a reason. I knew the people who were there were there for a reason. And I delivered for that reason.
Man did I deliver!
Remember, it ain’t that deep. All you have to do in life to make big things happen, is to say “hey, I want this big thing to happen.”
And then go get it!
First, know the brass ring is there. Then figure out how to grab it.
Royal Hearts Coaching is accepting new clientele. I’d love to help you figure out how to grab that brass ring. All you need to do is reach out to me. Email me at [email protected] and we can set up a sample coaching session.
Wanna hear the punchline? Sure, you do.
When I got to my car, I just breathed in silence for a few moments. Trying to come back to earth a little bit.
Then I started my car.
In my Spotify library is a playlist of University of Alabama Million Dollar Band music. Keep in mind, the last thing I listened to before I got out was Yea Alabama.
The playlist went right into the next song in the list. That song…was Rammer Jammer.
Rammer Jammer is played after every Bama win in anything. The rest of the nation probably hates it, but it’s gold plated gold to me.
“Hey Bulldogs! Hey Bulldogs! Hey Bulldogs! We just beat the hell outta you! Rammer Jammer Yellowhammer, give ‘em hell Alabama!”
The universe acknowledged that I just beat the hell out of that speaking engagement.
My thoughts became a thing.
