Carving Love Through a Mountain

It’s not a myth, it’s not an imagination of any poet, it’s a true story of a man’s love. We often hear about the power of love in movies and poetry but this story shows us real strength of love.

This story is the answer of questions like: what is love? What is the power of love? It’s definition? And, most importantly, what can a man do in love or for his love?

There was a man named Dashrath Manjhi in northern India. He was a labourer. His village was surrounded by mountains. And the villagers had to take a long route to reach the nearest city for essential service like hospital etc.

Manjhi loves his wife named ‘falguni’ unconditionally. But one tragic day, his wife became gravely ill. The only way to reach the nearest hospital was by taking a long and arduous route around the mountain. Unfortunately, due to the delay, Falguni passed away.

Devastated by the loss of his wife, Dashrath Manjhi vowed to prevent others in his village from suffering the same fate. He decided to carve a road through the mountain, connecting his village to the nearest town.

In 1960, he began his mission, armed only with a hammer and chisel.

Villagers mocked him and called him insane, but Manjhi remained continue in his resolve. He worked tirelessly for 22 years and he single-handedly carved a path 360 feet long, 30 feet wide, and 25 feet high through the mountain.

His efforts reduced the distance between the two villages from 55 kilometers to just 15 kilometers and created The Road of Love.

Manjhi’s dedication earned him fame across India and the title “Mountain Man.”Manjhi passed away in 2007, but his legacy continues to inspire millions.

This story shows that his love for his wife and his desire to help others transformed not only a mountain but also countless lives. And proved the strengthen of True Love.
