Weeks before our mother turned one hundred,
things were looking good,
the country had opened back up
after a coronavirus shutdown,
and then it returned, a bad sequel.
The facility planned for her celebration,
closed to all visitors,
friends and relatives would have to wish
her a happy birthday with cards and phone calls
instead of an in person meet and greet.
A birthday party scaled back,
only a small gathering,
the queen of the celebration,
her two sons and their wives,
the grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Light the candles on the cake,
a cake downsized from planned.
Each candle a remembrance
of each year gone by,
celebrating all the love in her life.
