We live in a cherry-picked world.
The world is too complex for us to understand
or describe
so we say that we live in the last nanoseconds recorded
or in the scope of our marriages or our lives,
maybe the lives of our ancestors or parents.
We actually live in evolution time, but that is too complex
as are the minds of those we grow up among,
those who curate us all the time.
Even the odd human who lives alone as a frontier person
was conceived of with two people
existing in evolution time…too complex.
Evolutionary biologists don’t cherry-pick deep time
but what else? We all do it because we have to. We
don’t have enough neurons and their enabling cells
to map all of reality. Yet, we say that which mostly men create from the cultures of our past is ‘artificial’ intelligence. They say it is a form of intelligence
but we don’t really know what that is. We don’t know what consciousness is either but we describe its outlines. We cherry-pick it until we say we don’t know what it really is either. That means we don’t know what ‘mind’ actually is.
But we say we make it. It is us. It is them. Who else? We don’t know. But we know this is artificial. It is AI. It is beyond humans but it is better and we should do what it says.
We said that about god too, pick your god. He is capricious. One minute, life; one minute, death. It is your fault. Pay this price. We pay the price and go on.
We say this is god, AI, Nature, whatever. It is too complex.
Cherry-pick.
What are we facing right now? You will use your mind to figure that out and call it something else when you are done. Historians show us this
if nothing at all.
What are we facing right now?
