I am a Professional MMA-UFC Referee. I’m a dedicated, divorced single father with full custody of my son, Michael Beltran, a 15-year-old sophomore who attends a private Catholic school at St. John Bosco High School in the City of Bellflower. I’m also an actor on the hit Directv drama KINGDOM that stars Frank Grillo, Jonathan Tucker, Matt Laura, Joanna Going, Kiele Sanchez, Natalie Martinez and Nick Jonas. My hobbies/interest are camping, the outdoors and training in MMA/Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. My true passion is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu where I’m currently a Brown Belt.
Quote.
Patience, unconditional love, lead by example and above all, love is key.
What do I do well as a dad.
My style of parenting is very simple, unconditional love and lead by example. In my house, there’s a lot of love and tough love. I believe family comes first before anything and love is key. What I do best is never to fail my son and keep lines of communication open with him. I’m supportive; I teach him to believe in himself and lead by example. I hold him accountable and make him take responsibility for his actions.
What I learned from another Dad.
The benefits of tough love from my dad. He taught me that the life in this world presents many difficult challenges and how to overcome them. Work hard at everything you do and let your actions speak louder than words. Be yourself and treat people the way you want to be treated. Conduct yourself in a respectable manner. In life, not everyone is going to like you. Life is not a popularity contest. Stay humble, honest and put your best foot forward. Never quit!
Lesson learned from my child.
No matter how tough things get, my son always tells me, “you got this Dad.” His never quit attitude, supportive words and actions motivate me to be the best dad I should be for him.
Successful fatherhood moment.
My son has had his ups and downs during his debut as a high school wrestler. Against tremendous odds, he made the Varsity wrestling team and represented his high school team deep into the CIF Championship tournament. That year I witnessed a transformation, in which, he grew from a boy with little confidence to a young man who began believing in himself.
Dad I admire.
The Dad I admire the most is my Father. He was a man of few words and taught me the importance of work ethic, accountability, respect, never be afraid to be yourself, humility, responsibility, and most importantly, love your family. As an immigrant from Sinaloa, Mexico he also taught me there’s no reason why anyone should fail in this great country of ours. He laid the blueprint on what a responsible man is supposed to be and act like.
