Do we go with the hand we were dealt, or do we have a chance to change it?
I first learned about Carol Dweck about a year ago when I read her book, “Mindset: The New Psychology of Success.” It’s fascinating stuff. She does some great science about how we deal with challenge that is immediately applicable in raising kids, working on self-development… and especially helpful for leadership development in the business world.
I actually use her concepts to great impact in pieces of my mentorship program for boys and men.
This week I found her TED Talk about the Power of “Not Yet” and I wanted to share it with you. Let me know in the comments below if you learned that you’re in the fixed mindset in a key area of your life that you feel “stuck.”
From TED: “Carol Dweck researches “growth mindset” — the idea that we can grow our brain’s capacity to learn and to solve problems. In this talk, she describes two ways to think about a problem that’s slightly too hard for you to solve. Are you not smart enough to solve it … or have you just not solved it yet? A great introduction to this influential field.”
