Alex Yarde has the Justified season premiere trailer and reviews episodes 1 and 2.
The recent snippets promoting season five of Justified show crow imagery with a short focus on each character. The snippets are both sinister and prophetic (see above). A family of crows is called a murder, and in the season five it looks like Harlan, Kentucky is about to be overrun!
U.S. Marshal Raylan (the excellent Timothy Olyphant) as usual is out gunned and outnumbered, he squares off cockily against his once best friend now enemy Boyd (my favorite cable bad guy Walton Gaggin) and Wynn Duffy (new series regular Jere Burns). They have some big trouble in little Detroit where they meet some unsterotypical Canadians. Amy Smart invites Raylan to some “target practice” and the slow burning Michael Rapaport is introduced as Daryl the South Florida Crowe Patriarch. A mini review of the seasons first two episodes are below-
Episode 1, “Murder Of Crowes”: With his fiancée awaiting trial things are not going well for Boyd. This sums up his day. “I had to kill three deliverymen, I got no dope and my ears damn near been shot off! Pack a bag, were going to Detroit.”
Episode 2, “The Boys Aren’t All Right”: Marshall Raylan has a personal stake in a weed rap involving Lexington P.D., juveniles who are in way over their heads and a crew of funny albeit sociopathic dealers. The fall out behind Boyd’s choices from prior episodes start to unfold in an a very unpredictable way.
The writers outdo themselves and channel Elmore Lenaord’s snappy patter and rapid fire wit with love. Even the smallest, most despicable, characters in this “down home” crime procedural have memorable one liners that shine through every deliciously crafted conversation. It’s as violent and raw as it’s humorous and charming and both can happen within the same scene in the blink of an eye. It’s all I’ve grown to love about this gem of a series from the opening chords of Brooklyn based Gangstagrass to the final shot of Timothy Olyphant’s iconic Gunslinging lawman slowly walking away.
I’m looking forward to the fifth season of Justified premiering 10 PM EST January 7th only on FX!
