Tomorrow is a big day for me, but it is an even bigger day for my friend. Tomorrow morning I have an appointment at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis. Last week I wrote an article detailing my friendship with Scott and the health issues he’s faced of late. In short, he needs a kidney transplant and I am going through the process of determining whether or not I can give him one. In my last article, I mentioned that I had sent off blood work to be tested. That blood work came back and Scott’s Facebook post can sum up the results:

After I received the call with the test results, I sent a message in our joint Facebook Messenger thread. When I called Scott thirty seconds later, he was bawling his eyes out and telling me he loved me. So,naturally, I began to cry as well. Through all the pain he’s gone through since being diagnosed, at that moment it seemed like there was a moment of happiness.
As I mentioned previously, Scott hasn’t lost his sense of humor through this process. Not only are we joking about how to tell people we meet on the golf course about how I lost my kidney to him in a bet, but he’s also created this amazing album of pictures of him while getting dialysis.
This photo album sums up Scott’s personality perfectly. It shows how he’s handled an awful situation with humor and positivity.
The road to a transplant is far from over, but there’s a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel. Tomorrow and Wednesday I will undergo a battery of tests to see if living donation is a viable option. Hopefully, I am, but if not, we will keep going down the path to find another potential donor. Again, if you’d like to become a potential donor, please feel free to reach out.

In light of Scott’s story, I’d like to put out a call for submissions. I want to hear about the adversity you faced in life and how you overcame said adversity.

We want to hear your point of view:
1. What is a tragedy that you’ve faced?
2. How did you respond to the situation?
3. What was the resolution?
4. Looking back now, would you have done anything differently?
