If you have ever been bullied, the chances are that you know the pain of rejection with all its accompanying feelings. Rejection is hard to get over, but it doesn’t have to be a life sentence. A person can move on from rejection and eventually find joy in everything again.
So how do I get over rejections? Well, here’s how:
1. Stop obsessing over it.
Many people wonder why they can’t get over something like a bad review or a snub from a past love, but often they get stuck on the idea of the whole thing because they are unable to put the event out of their thoughts.
They spend ages thinking about a breakup or something that factually happened to them in their past and can’t stop dwelling on it long enough to move on with their lives. It can be something as simple as receiving a bad review at work that leads you to dwell on it for days and eventually think about how it will ruin your entire career.
Try to think about the situation for a short time and then move on with your life. By dwelling on the negative aspect of life, you do more harm than good.
2. Keep busy by moving forward with your life.
When you find yourself thinking negatively, try changing your mindset and keep moving forward with your life anyway. Once you realize you can continue with your life without dwelling on what happened, you’ll move on from the situation more quickly.
If you are stuck at home and have nothing to do, try going to an amusement park or a shopping mall, or play an active game with your friends. (this is what I do)
3. Talk about it.
When you talk to people (family and friends), they will be able to reassure you that they have been through similar situations. It’s a great way of getting advice and reassurance, but it can also keep you from dwelling on what happened. Talking to other people will keep your mind off the situation for a short amount of time and help you move on.
4. Do something productive like reading, writing, or drawing.
When you focus on some productive activity that keeps your mind occupied, your mind will stop dwelling on what happened to you and think about whatever new thing you are doing instead. It’s a great way to move forward.
5. Let it go.
If you have tried the above suggestions and are still having trouble moving on, the only thing that might work is to let go of what happened entirely by accepting that there’s nothing you can do about it now and moving on with your life.
No one likes being rejected, but it’s a part of life. You can’t dwell on it forever; you have to let go and continue with your life.
The way to get over rejection is to accept that it happened, let go of your feelings about the situation, and move on with your life anyway. You have to keep living your life and not continually focus on the negativity to get over it.
