How To Fish: Fishing Set Up [Video]

hey kids so today i’m going to take you

on the next step of what you need to

learn before we actually go out and fish

i’m going to walk you through a couple

basic setups so that you can either fish

with a lure

or fish with some sort of bait

and if you’re just fishing off the dock

i’m hoping to go fishing uh in a couple

days with my brother rick early in the

morning to show you how to cast show you

how to fish and hopefully we’ll actually

catch something we got a limited time

but we’re gonna do that

uh so that’ll be the next video but

before we do that let’s just go ahead

and uh yeah we’ll walk through this

first i have a dad joke for you so

you know this is something i never knew

uh why do fish swim in schools

because they can’t walk

ah so anyway let’s get started

okay so this is the setup

that i was talking about in my intro

video okay

so you have your line coming here

and then i have these two sinkers see

that they’re they they go feeding right

through the hole and then they’re here

okay and then what we have here is a

knot

um that’s tied this swivel on okay we

got that swivel

okay that’s tied on maybe i can see you

can see it better in my hand okay so

it’s tied there so that these sinkers

hit the swivel but they can also slide

up and down the line okay and i’ll show

you how to tie that knot

okay i’m trying to show you this knot uh

and show it the best way i was trying to

use a a small hole but what so let’s

just pretend this is the

um where we’re gonna tie the knot okay

so i think this will still do the trick

here okay so this is what i do

imagine you’re going through the hole

on the hook or on the swivel

okay and then you’re gonna do this

you go over

over

you go do this about four or five times

okay you do that okay and then now

here’s here’s the part that you got to

pay attention to too

see how this thing’s coming across here

see that

you don’t want to go through this hole

here because that won’t work you

actually got to come through the back

side here you’re coming through here

okay so we we wrapped it around four or

five times four five six times and then

we go through there

okay

like that

and then we take that and we come

through here okay like that and that’s

that’s the knot you want right there you

kind of cinch it up and then you pull it

down

a little hard with a rope

but that’s what you’re looking for that

is a great knot and i use that for

basically anything that i’m tying

tying on when i’m fishing and then you

just snip this little bit off like that

that’s a great knot

okay and then now

here’s that same knot again

tied here and then i i make my own

leader line that’s what this is called

you can actually buy

uh pre

uh you know hooks

with that actually have a leader line on

them but i think they’re only like 12

inches last time i checked i haven’t

bought them in years when i was a kid

that’s how we did it though and then you

it actually has a loop at the end

and then you can just open up this

swivel

and then you just slip it on and then

clamp that back down because this

actually has a an opening on it this

swivel the kind i get you can get

swivels that are just swivels so they

have a

uh

hole here and a hole here and nothing to

clip into i always just buy these

because you can use them the same way

plus it gives you the option of clamp or

clipping in

uh a lure okay and then i have

oh my hook is stuck in my

table

uh let’s see

okay and then i have about what is that

18 inches or so of leader line okay tied

there and then i have my hook tied on

with that with that same knot

okay

so that’s that

uh and then i’ll show you how to put

bait on when i go fish uh with rick in a

couple days so i’ll show you how to do

that uh so that’s that setup okay and

then if you’re fishing with a lure all

you need to do is you just tie on one of

those swivels like i talked about okay

and you just

tie it right straight to the line and

then you just it hasn’t this a lure has

an eyelet like this and the nice thing

about this is you just use that you slip

it on

i actually want to go through here

okay

like that

there you go and then you can clip those

on and clip them off really easy right

so then you can fish with this lure and

then you can go ah that color’s not

catching anything so i can pop it off uh

slap on a new one really easy so you can

fish with lures uh all kinds of

different lures so

anyway and then we just pop that off

okay

all right so that’s that i do want to

show you how to

properly

put a bobber on okay

okay so if you do use a bobber um let’s

just talk about this here

so if you do use a bobber um this is

another way to fish i did talk about i

referenced uh you know a kid how a kid

will use a bobber so that they pay

attention you know i have seen adults

using a bobber too because one of the

things it can do is if you don’t have

marshmallow or you don’t have

something that floats you can

put this bobber on

you know

uh depend on where you’re fishing

10 feet up from here right and then so

that keeps your bait up out of the weeds

too

by just causing it to just float there

so that’s another way but the way the

way you put this on is

it has a little

so you you hold down the bottom right

put your thumb over the bottom and then

you put your finger right here and it

reveals a hook do you see that little

hook and you put that on

okay

like that so now it’s on and then you do

the same thing here you push on this

button and then you have another hook on

the other side okay see that little hook

and you put that here

see that so now that’s how you put a

bobber on

sometimes you’ll see people

put it uh just on the top

that’s okay but this is just the proper

way see it’s coming down the bottom

there and

you’re good to go

okay so i’m just going to show you what

my basic setup is since it’s a little

difficult to see uh that thin

fishing line so here’s what we’re gonna

do let me uh okay

so this is what i what i have so here’s

my fishing pole

okay and then you have the

okay and then we got the line coming out

of it okay and outside of that line i

have

a sinker like that a sinker like that

and then i have my

my swivel

with a snap on it

okay so it has a snap on it you can get

a swivel that looks like this

right with just two

holes on it like that okay on each side

and you could just tie to that or tie to

that mine actually has a snap so you can

snap it out and then snap it back

okay so then i have it tied and then i

got a leader line coming out here which

is about 18 inches

okay

and then at the end i tie my hook

so that’s what i have for my basic one

and then these sinkers slide up and down

and then they hit the swivel and then

you got your you got your leader line so

that’s what i have for my basic setup

okay and then you can also

uh have

so let’s do another poll my second setup

was this

and you got your line coming out here

and basically all i have there is i just

have a

swivel okay and it’s a snap swivel so it

has a

you can snap in and snap out

your different lures okay

uh let’s just draw a lure

okay and then it’s got a hook cam coming

out the back so then it’s got a lure

coming out the back like that

okay

and then that last one with the bobber

let’s talk about that

so if you’re gonna

fish with a bobber

you would use this and then you’d come

out here

and you’d basically just have it go like

this and then you’d have your uh let’s

see let’s try let’s

draw that back you’d have your bobber

and then you basically have so you have

your bobber and i showed you how to put

that on right the string comes here the

line comes here it’s attached at the top

and then it comes around it’s attached

at the bottom okay and then it drops

straight down

and then you have

your hook like that and you can

depending on where you’re fishing at you

could have your bobber uh and then just

ha you could make this short or make it

long if you if you’re in a shallow area

you could just make this like three feet

or you can make it like 10 feet

uh you just got to be paying attention

when you’re reeling that fish in if it’s

10 feet

and you’re reeling in that bobber uh is

going to come up and it’s going to hit

the end of your

pretty quick and you probably wouldn’t

expect it so it come up and you still

got 10 feet of line hanging out there

right so you just got to pay attention

to that so whereas this this thing’s

going to be you know the fish is going

to be out and it’s not going to you’re

gonna have three or four feet before you

actually are netting the fish or what

have you so you’re not gonna deal with

that on either of these right because

they’re gonna be far enough away from

the end of your pole but when you reel

this in the bobber could come up and

actually hit the end and you could

actually lose the fish because you could

actually break the line that way too so

i thought this was just helpful for you

to kind of break it down kind of

uh
