By Mereya Sanchez
I come from rap stars and Crenshaw
From second moms and dads
From Indian heritage and dance
From best friends who become family
From red eyes that almost always came from getting high
From a mind that keeps me up writing at night
From always knowing first and best,
Yet not all the time.
From never caring about what others think
And having fun walking down dangerous streets
I come from a place where money comes first.
I come from a single mother,
From three sisters and bad decisions
From believing there is no good
Nor bad because nothing is as simple as that
From open minds that accept bad crimes
Where second cousins are all I had
But so much love regardless.
