This was a rainy day and I was determined.
It started well enough. Fortified by two pounds of bacon my helper was put to work vacuuming, a job that in retrospect I should have supervised a bit closer. Laundry was put into the washing machine, her week’s worth of dirty clothes consisting of three bathing suits, one dress and four pairs of underwear. Spoiler alert, it’s all still sitting in the drier as I type this.

My most important task was the frightening pile of bills that had been accumulating on my desk, July bringing with it car taxes, property taxes, fire taxes and all the other lovely requests that the town makes all at once every year. Needing to concentrate I left her to her cartoons and set up in the dining room.
The dining room that housed some sort of crystal growing kit that obviously needed to be worked on at that very minute, in a completely different outfit. She assured me that she could follow the directions herself, read them out loud several times to be sure, and went to work, singing to herself as she engaged in some sort of experiment that I’ll confess to still not fully understanding even though it was conducted in the chair right next to me.

You know how this story ends. Two people sitting on the couch eating nachos, watching Wonder Woman. A pile of bills that hopefully I’ll get to work on in a few minutes. Clothes that can wait until tomorrow.
Just another day.
