I could start this article with alarming facts on the climate crisis. Yet I don’t. As you decided to read this, I bet you know all of them and feel sick of it. Welcome to the club!
For 2024, I want to reframe that ‘problem’ for us.
The climate crisis is a global problem, for sure.
It leaves us afraid and depressed, for sure.
BUT
The good news about the bad news
On an individual level, the climate crisis can be ‘purpose’. Soldiers feel the most purposeful when going for a mission of which goals they approve.
So we have a deep urge to move our beloved world in a certain direction: As far away from climate crisis as possible.
We can be problem solvers! 🤘🏻
We have our purpose!
Now, the worst climate-conscious people can do is stay silent due to the massive scale of the problem.
Let’s not turn our back on the problem because we assume we cannot change anything, anyway.
The best option: Staying alive, staying alive, ah ah ah
Ask yourself: If that thing is making me so restless, what can I do about it?
Take it, change it, or leave it.
Well, leaving it (in this case, earth) is no option. The crisis is there. Our ambition is to stay. Not only ourselves but as a species. 💪🏻
Taking it as it is is no option as well, as you are still on board reading.
I’m pumped now, let’s get loud! But wait, where do we start?
I am convinced that the most powerful action one can do is structural action. Get political! A local climate club, NGO, party, anything.
I am also convinced that the most effective thing one can start with is something fun. 🤩
The first possible step to figure out your way to address the climate crisis with action is simple: Create a list of all the things you can imagine doing that have a positive climate impact. This might be
- going vegan
- blogging about the topic
- exchanging with people
- reducing plastic (maybe stop using plastic bags in the store and bring your own reusable or old bags instead)
- yes, getting political, etc.
Choose the one that feels most attractive to you as a starter!
And remember, starters are for enhancing appetite. 🤭
Make fighting a monster your success!
Don’t let the monster rob all your joy and make you an anxious little rabbit.
This is why I, next to writing about the climate crisis, will pick up my activity at my city’s local sub-group of the NGO ‘German Zero’ again — hopefully leading it to climate neutrality in 2035. 🌱
…
Let’s go! (and let’s write more funny and empowering articles on how to combat the climate crisis) 🚀
