Men Can Go to Therapy
Even though we have progressed in our society as far as all genders seeking out mental health treatment, stigma about men being in therapy is still out there. The shame is real concerning men pursuing mental health treatment such as counseling as a means to get better from problems like depression, anxiety, and other mental illnesses. It’s sad to think that men are not comfortable enough to express themselves and get the help that they need when they are suffering, mainly from an illness as debilitating as depression or bipolar disorder. Depression kills people, it is tragic to admit, but it does. If gone untreated, depression can end lives. Men, like any other human beings in the world, deserve to receive proper mental health treatment.
Working Too Much Can Affect Mental Health
Let’s think about professional businesspeople, lawyers, doctors, and people who work 50 to 80 hours a week. This sort of workaholic nature can be a sign of a more profound mental health problem. These professionals, who dedicate a lot of time to their jobs, seemingly do not have the opportunity to focus on taking care of their mental health. Concerning doctors, this is ironic since they are responsible for caring for other human beings.
Tech Dudes Need Therapy Too
Then there are the tech dudes. These are the guys that work in coding or IT. Tech dudes might have a mental illness, and many of them could struggle with a plethora of mental health issues including social anxiety. The nature of working with computers is a solitary one. An individual who works as a coder is somewhat isolated from other human beings and could end up feeling lonely, socially isolated or anxious and even depressed.
For tech dudes, it might be hard to step away from their solitary work and get out there and see a therapist even if they’re legitimately suffering from depression or social anxiety. However, there is an option for these guys to get the treatment they need; it is flexible, and they can use technology to enhance their mental health, and that’s online counseling.
Social Anxiety is Real
Where do tech dudes spend most of their time? In front of a computer; so, one method of treatment they can try is online therapy. It’s private and technology-based, which makes it familiar to tech guys. It is unlikely that it will provoke their social anxiety as much as seeing a therapist in an office and frankly because tech dudes work so much, they probably don’t have the time to take a break and travel to a therapist’s office. So why not use technology to their benefit and get help online with an online counselor?
Online counseling isn’t just for men who work in technology fields of course. It can be beneficial to anybody who is interested in trying something new in mental health. And it is flexible, safe and affordable. It would be interesting to see if a bunch of tech dudes would be willing to try this method of treatment for mental health issues, and talk amongst themselves to see if it worked for them. Who knows? It’s possible that their quality of work would improve if they paid more attention to their mental health.
Treatment Helps
The goal of online counseling is to help clients gain the tools they need to have more coping skills to handle their mental health issues. Tech dudes are well-versed at working in their field, but they may not have the skillset to manage their mental health intrinsically. That’s why working with a counselor can only help.
So, are you a guy who works in the tech industry who has mental health issues? Would you consider using online counseling? Why or why not?
