Respect for Good Men

By Andrea Wilburn
–
Good men are boring
Kind but doormat
Hot men are exciting
Because they validate you are hot too
This is too toxic
That is too sentimental
You are supposed to be strong
But not when I want you to be soft
So our culture informs us
Numerous stereotypes and labels
And descriptions of “men”
That are really describing “criminals” or “jerks”
Men get lost in scandalous labels that only fit a few
And the women’s magazines generally conclude
Men are only fine when they can read a woman’s mind
We don’t seek to understand them
All of them are the same
Men.
But that is no happy ending
To a beautiful and fascinating book
Always judging by the cover
But never captivated by the words
This man is not like the other
This man has a life that is not known
Through your look to size him up
Gender has meaning
But individuality far more
Men are spiritual
The Divine Spark fuels their purpose
Men are stirred to heroism
So many heroes who never had a hero to learn from
Men are held back by limiting beliefs
Authority figures who made sure they could be controlled by the Shame switch they installed
Men are warriors who fight for authenticity
There is no Ideal Male model but they find a way
Men are peace and love and hopes and dreams
Men are unique
But also just like you and me
You’ve got this.
