“You know, I talked to Herschel about this morning and I’ve known Herschel a good while….I think he’s a remarkable person. I think he’s the most important Senate candidate in the country because he will do more to change the Senate just by the sheer presence, by his confidence, by his deep commitment to Christ.” – Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich
So, Newt, a “deep commitment to Christ” stands as the major criterion for holding public office in the United States? Well possibly, especially in this era as Christian nationalism has gained enormous ascendency in the political process, and as an extreme “semi-fascism” trumps the democratic principles on which the nation was founded but has never attained.
If I remember back to my middle school civics class, however, “The Church” happens not to be inscribed into our great Constitution as one of the three coequal branches of government.
Be that as it may, Newt, have you ever considered whether your Christ would have a deep commitment to Herschel Walker?
No, I mean really it! I know your answer would be something like your “Christ has a deep commitment to all people, to all mortal sinners who are willing to repent and seek forgiveness.”
Well, let’s see how Herschel does on that account.
Commandment 1: “You shall have no other gods before Me.” Newt, have you asked Herschel about this one? Should we consider money, fame, and sexual conquests as gods? If not, Herschal may get a completed pass (pun intended regarding his sexual conquests) on this.
Commandment 2: “You shall not make idols.” Well, there are many types of idols, false and otherwise. Okay, let’s give him a partial pass that doesn’t result in a gain or loss of ground on this.
Commandment 3: “You may not take the name of the LORD your God in vain.” I would think Herschel is not much better than most other people on this one. Let him get away with a completion with no real gain of yardage on this.
Commandment 4: “Remember the Sabbath Day and keep it holy.” How many “Sabbath Days” did Herschel go to work, let him count the ways. But I will not cast the first stone here.
Commandment 5: “Honor your father and your mother.” Herschel may very well have followed this commandment to a completion in regard to his birth parents, so let’s give him a touchdown here.
But I would ask, has he honored all or even any of the mothers of his many children? Has he cared for them, supported them, encouraged them to be full human beings? No pass completion here. Actually, he fumbled with a loss of yardage.
Commandment 6: “You shall not murder.” Since abortion is not murder, and because there is no indication of Herschel committing what would be called “murder,” we can grant him a carry and gain here.
Commandment 7: “You shall not commit adultery.” Here Herschel committed a fatal game ending self-imposed fumble, which, along with…
Commandment 9: “You shall not bear false witness,” in tandem disqualifies him from elective office since he continues to double down on his obvious lies.
Referenced in Exodus 20:15 forbidding bribery and forgery and the very suggestion of anything contrary to truth, the deeper swirls the controversy around Herschel’s infidelity, lies, and sheer hypocrisy, so too does his fully apparent and contrived explanations without even a hint of asking for repentance.
It is said in Revelation 22:15, “whoever loves and practices a lie” will be outside from the gates of the New Jerusalem, and in Revelation 21:27 “But there shall by no means enter it anything that defiles, or causes an abomination or a lie, but only those who are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life.”
Commandment 8: “You shall not steal.” Stealing comes in many forms, from grabbing without permission any material object from the least to most costly to failing to provide care for an offspring. Here, Herschel committed yet another game ending fumble.
Commandment 10: “You shall not covet,” which originally stated, in Exodus 20:15:“You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor’s.”
Hey, probably only Herschel, his wife, and the women involved in this drama know the full extent of the truth of what really happened, and it is for them and possibly the courts to sort out, so this referee will make no call on this play.
But with all the serious fumbles Herschel committed, by his resistance to own up to his fumbles, and by the enormous pressures and awesome responsibilities inherent in the position of United States Senator, it is game over for Herschel Walker and game on and continuing for Senator Reverend Raphael Warnock of the great state of Georgia, senior pastor of Atlanta’s Ebenezer Baptist Church, and formerly the home church of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Sr.
Newt, so I would ask whether you and all of Herschel Walker’s GOP enablers have “a deep commitment to Christ,” since your collusion with this obviously unqualified candidate is far more about obtaining and keeping power over others than it is about any concern for the good people of Georgia or the country at large. And you are certainly unrepentant.
