Most of us are socialized to seek a primary relationship and many of us make a legal commitment that we later choose to dissolve. The divorce rate in the United States is approximately 50% for first-time marriages and higher for second marriages.
Here are some prompt to get you drafting your essay to share with The Good Men Project readers.
- How did you go from being part of a couple to being your individual self?
- What was difficult about the transition? What was easier than you expected?
- Once it was officially over, did you make a concerted effort to find yourself and your own path? If it didn’t come naturally, why not?
- If you could go back and re-do something, what would you do different? What are you sure you did right?
- What lifestyle changes did you consciously make between the individual you were before your last relationship and who you are aiming to be, now?
- What do you want men to know about ending their significant relationship and moving forward with life?
