Beloved Family,
Our stories matter, and so do our storytellers. Next week, we’re hosting a candid discussion about the federal government’s deliberate targeting of protestors in defense of Black lives during the summer uprisings of 2020.
On August 18, we released Struggle for Power: The Ongoing Persecution of Black Movement by the U.S. Government in collaboration with the Creating Law Enforcement Accountability & Responsibility (CLEAR) Clinic. The report details how the federal government used surveillance tactics, arrests, and federal charges in order to disrupt and discourage the movement for Black liberation. Since then, our movement has been targeted by more than 225 anti-protest bills, with eight states passing anti-protest legislation that unfairly targets Black protestors.
Please donate to our collaborators at the CLEAR Clinic, whose meticulous research and analysis made this report possible.
We’ll hear from local organizers and authors of the report as we discuss how the federal government has weaponized these surveillance tactics, how we have proposed legislation like the BREATHE Act, and what we can do to fight back.
