A new study has revealed America’s least lonely states, with Mississippi taking the top spot.
AI productivity platform Plus analyzed data on the average number of monthly searches for 152 keywords related to loneliness in each state. The average number of monthly searches was measured against each state’s population size to determine the number of searches per 100,000 residents.
According to the study, Mississippi ranked as America’s least lonely state, with 54.39 monthly searches per 100,000 people. The state averaged 1,599 monthly searches around the topic, with terms such as ‘lonely’ and ‘how to make friends as an adult’ being the most searched.
Coming in second was Wisconsin, with 54.85 monthly searches per 100,000 residents. The state recorded 3,242 average monthly searches, with keywords such as ‘lonely,’ ‘finding friends,’ and ‘I’m so lonely’ being among the most searched terms.
Third in the ranking is Alabama, with 55.35 searches per month per 100,000 residents. Of 2,828 average monthly searches, the state’s most searched for terms were ‘lonely,’ ‘how to make friends as an adult’ and ‘finding friends.’
Louisiana and Texas tied for fourth place, with 55.41 monthly searches related to loneliness per 100,000 people. Louisiana recorded 2,534 average monthly searches, while Texas recorded 16,901 searches, with phrases such as ‘lonely’ and ‘how to make friends as an adult’ being the most common in both states.
In fifth is South Carolina, with 56.45 monthly searches per 100,000 residents. The state recorded 3,034 average monthly searches, with terms such as ‘lonely,’ ‘how to make friends as an adult,’ ‘finding friends,’ and ‘I’m so lonely’ being the most searched for.
Indiana comes in sixth, with 57.08 monthly searches per 100,000 residents. Of 3,917 average monthly searches, the most common search term was ‘lonely’ followed by ‘how to make friends as an adult,’ ‘finding friends,’ and ‘I’m so lonely.’
Seventh on the list is Ohio, with 57.56 monthly searches related to loneliness per 100,000 people. Ohio recorded 6,784 average monthly searches, with terms such as ‘lonely,’ ‘how to make friends as an adult,’ ‘I’m so lonely’ and ‘feeling alone’ being the most searched for.
In eighth is Florida, with 58.11 monthly searches per 100,000 residents. The state recorded 13,140 average monthly searches, with terms such as ‘lonely,’ ‘how to make friends as an adult,’ and ‘finding friends’ being the most searched.
Kentucky ranks ninth, with 58.28 monthly searches per 100,000 residents. Of 2,638 average monthly searches, ‘lonely’ was the most searched term, followed by ‘how to make friends as an adult,’ ‘finding friends’ and ‘I’m so lonely.’
Landing the tenth spot is Michigan, with 58.30 monthly searches related to loneliness per 100,000 people. Michigan recorded 5,852 average monthly searches, with ‘lonely,’ ‘how to make friends as an adult,’ and ‘finding friends’ being the most searched terms.
Vermont was found to be the loneliest state in America, with 114.98 monthly searches per 100,000 residents. The state recorded 744 average monthly searches, with the terms ‘lonely’ and ‘how to make friends as an adult’ being the most searched.
