The Haste Con
By Andrea Wilburn

Make haste
Or so all your priorities tell you
Do you know some of the best cons
Encourage haste to distract from lies
Perhaps your rush is not much different
Performance at the expense of peace
Distracting with achievement on the outside
But neglecting maturity on the inside
We often think of ourselves in the youngest light
Older souls owe us
And should show us the way
But we are often older than another
Do we owe those younger souls?
Should we show them the way?
So many beliefs and encouragements
Remind us we are children
Small compared to a God
Small compared to an enlightened standard
Very very small
But small things are destined to grow
Stay a child if that is well
But grow to be an adult child
Always learning but certainly grown
Wise enough to know
That calm is what helped us to grow
Circumstances raged
Doubts plagued
Uncertainty persisted
But the child learned to still itself
And know that questions are not a curse
Anxiety made things worse
But peace lifted our focus
And while our lives pressed against us
We grew stronger where no man could touch
And so we are children
And so we are grown as well
Haste is not always an advancement
Haste is often a disguise for immaturity
Always checking those boxes
But never reaching the desired outcome
Do you want your circumstances to relieve the pressure?
Or do you want to realize that you are source of the pressure?
Believing other people’s burdens
Pretending they are your own
When really you are just afraid
To acknowledge that you have your own idea
What is rejected by others
May be the perfect choice for you
With Love and Peace to guide you
You can learn your own way.
You’ve got this!
