The Power of You

Labels have power because we give it to them
Fueling our belief systems
Influencing our behavior
Being a god that we consult
But labels are often a Supposed To Be
Family is Supposed To Be this
Gender is Supposed To Be this
Social currency is Supposed To Be this
Always striving for an ideal standard
But ideal according to who?
Everyone always does it this way
So of course it should work for you
I have always done it this way
So of course it should work for you
But people generally tend to share
Not what has worked for them
But what was Supposed To work for them
And then you receive this grand advice
That is Supposed To work for you
But rarely does
No one ever prepared us well for life
Even the best never could
So we continue to look for a new leader
Someone who knows more than us
Who can help us to know more without having to make a fool of ourself first
Someone to fill the gap of what we were Supposed To learn
But the gap is you
You may have to be a fool now and then
But you are source of your own answers
And you are the source of your own growth
What if you looked inside
Instead of at every shiny appearance
And finally learned that you are so much better at this than you imagined
No one has the authority to live your life but you
No one will ever know the depths of your heart but you
You have the most knowledge and insight and wisdom
But you have to look within and get better at listening to you
To finally learn that you are so much better at this than you imagined
We believe learning must be difficult
We believe mistakes must end our worth
We believe appearances must be truth
We believe that someone’s advancement is at another’s expense
We believe in scarcity and that our chances are few
We believe labels give us safety
And help us to navigate life
But these beliefs are the opposite of wisdom
And keep us from the freedom of authentic reality
What is good for the masses may not be good for you
What has been good for you in the past may not be good for you now
If you must insist on a label
How about the one labeled You
No one has the authority to live your life but you
No one will ever know the depths of your heart but you
You have the most knowledge and insight and wisdom
But you have to look within and get better at listening to you
To finally learn that you are so much better at this than you imagined.
