I couldn’t sleep the night before the inauguration. Like many of you experienced, the weeks leading up to that day were an emotional rollercoaster. As a physical empath, I have noticed strange pains in my knees and legs that have not been there before. I am sensitive to the emotional energy of the collective as well as the emotional waves of my own inner being. It always takes me time in my practice to assess what is going on with my mind, body and emotional state. This time, however, it was abundantly clear — my body has been absorbing fear and unprocessed insecurity since I crossed the Canadian/US border.
And it makes complete sense.
In Canada, every person was given the financial support needed to maintain some sense of continuity and security throughout this pandemic. In the United States, we were not given enough. Furthermore, we also just barely survived being led by a pseudo toxic parent who was not emotionally available to soothe our fears. If you are a sensitive person and you do not have pain in your body, you might be coping with the chaos through complete denial. The energy is spectacularly difficult in comparison to our neighbors across the border and it is wreaking havoc with our health.
While I was up last night, I pulled out a book I had not read in a long time by medical intuitive Carolyn Myss, PhD and I immediately turned to the chapter about the first chakra (also known as the root chakra). In her book, Anatomy of Spirit, she talks about the first chakra being associated with tribal power — or our family and the larger cultural context. Our first chakra is associated with our legs and represents our psychological stability. The biggest issues we need to overcome to maintain a healthy energetic balance is purging our victim mentality:
If we feel victimized by society, for example, we should deal with this negative perception so that it doesn’t cause us to lose energy…Nurturing bitterness toward the cultural tribe embroils our energy in a continual inner conflict that blocks access to the healing power of the scared truth — all is one.
She further discusses the work of Carl Jung who remarked that group consciousness is the lowest form of consciousness because any individuals involved in “negative group action” rarely accept responsibility for their behaviors.
So if the first chakra is psychologically related to our sense of safety and security and it is affected by people who engage in negative behavior without taking responsibility, than we better hope that today’s Inauguration is a huge first step toward healing our sense of insecurity. We heal by clearing out the trauma from the bottom up and that trauma is collective in nature for us today.
The Role of Justice
Last month, we also celebrated MLK and a day of service. So many of us are rightfully angry with what has transpired over the past few years. We want justice. We seek justice.
Yet, we rarely understand that justice is a root chakra issue and tied to a core sense of safety and stability. In order to embrace its energy from a balanced perspective, we have to learn to let our anger go and release those people who have hurt us. We do not access collective justice through anger or an “eye for an eye” mentality. It is the ultimate test of faith in something larger than ourselves and the reminder that true security does not come from external circumstances but is an internal state that lays the foundation for our future success. Thus if so many of us are stuck in anger, blaming and refusing to take responsibility for our choices, we hold the entire collective back from achieving a higher level of conscious awareness.
For this reason, it is important for us to have leaders that are inspirational, that convey an image of stability and are able to turn many unsavory situations and thoughts into gold. It is why it was important to watch the Inauguration — we were not only watching history take place but we were healing our root chakras and hopefully stepping forward into a place of healing so we can feel more secure, less fearful and a whole lot less angry.
It’s time to put away the harsh rhetoric, lower the temperature, see each other again … we have to stop treating our opponents like enemies,
— President Joe Biden
So if you were unsure if you should watch or not, there is a health reason to — we all need to come together to help heal our insecurity and watching this Inaguration was one way to contribute to our society’s healing.
