Everybody knows that February 14 is Valentine’s Day. But many are not aware that February 15 is Singles Awareness Day. It is a good time to consider the factors that can create a healthy relationship.
Thoughts on a Lifetime of Love – by Don Mathis
- It takes two to tango. If one of the partners quits, the dance is over.
- Mutual respect is essential as is a spirit of sacrifice.
- There can be no scorecard for who is owed a favor.
- If you play a card game with another couple, and your partner signals you to make a play, beware. If they will cheat on a card table, they will cheat in other rooms.
- A couple must communicate. If one cannot explain a problem, two problems exist.
- A mutual appreciation for art, literature, politics, religion, entertainment, and travel will provide gist for conversation. Shared experiences will strengthen the bond.
- The ability to discuss ideas enhances the ability to work out differences.
- Love can create a vision of beauty.
- Trust must endure.
- All relationships will end either by one party’s declaration or by mutual agreement – or by death, if they last that long.
- The ability to grow, to always evolve, may provide the time for a long-lasting relationship.
