I’m spending today finally checking off items on my to-do list which never seems to end.
I’ll be leaving for Hawaii shortly to bring my daughter home from her global exchange program.
I’m pretty sure the warmth of Hawaii will be haunting her dreams while snuggling under the blankets on a cold Vancouver night.
Today is the rainiest day we’ve had in a while. It’s downright ugly. So I’ve decided to put together a collection of random photos of my rainy city.

As I arrived to work the other morning I noticed a small group of people looking up. Strangers taking a keen interest in a tree.
As I got closer I noticed this little guy.

His natural enemies were loudly squawking all day. The crows took shifts and tried their hardest to scare him away.
The wise old owl refused to budge.
Two nights later, while starting a night shift the little fella swooped past me leaving me in awe of his large wingspan.
I wondered if it was a sign of good luck.
Of course he may have been spying on the rather large rodents that are rampant around our hospital.
The first neighbourhood developed in Vancouver is Gastown. It’s iconic for its steam clock, and a huge novelty for its tourists.

Main Street is popular with the locals. You can find everything here from restaurants, pubs, cafes, and gift shops. And if you’re looking for unique gifts, you’ll also find that here.
I simply love the window displays around the city at Christmas.

Commercial Drive is a trendy location for artists and foodies. You’ll find plenty of thrift shops, artisan boutiques and global food.
This delicious display is from a little shop on ‘The Drive’, as we locals like to say, has the most delicious and artistic Turkish Delight imported from Turkey.
It’s an expensive treat but well worth it.
The gelatin delicacy is rolled in various colourful flavours and sweets.
The rolls are then sliced like sushi.

Here is a quick clip of how they’re made!

Some days I look out of our emergency department glass sliding doors to catch a glimpse of what the weather is doing. I’ll inadvertently see this view, and it makes me smile every time, leaving me longing for my next caffeinated treat.

Another fun destination in Vancouver is Granville Island. A local marketplace with several artisan shops and food treats that Vancouverites love to enjoy on a sunny day.
The following displays caught my eye.

The next two images remind me of the Danish tradition of hygge which I’ve written about here!

I love the natural glow of twilight combined with the warmth of the indoors and the stunning colours of the ceramic.

Thank you for reading from the ultimate rainy city. ☔️
