Normal is a word, a nasty word lately, you might even think it’s an insult. So many people do, like calling them normal makes them less than they are. It is now another name for boring and common, and no one is like that. But I am normal and so are you.
Let’s get into it.
Normal means typical, but what is the standard of people. Who gets to decide that this set of characteristics makes the expected man or woman? Well, I think no one. Just because I don’t do what you do and vice versa doesn’t make you abnormal or I. Look, live, think and all those actions you can conjure up.
Put yourself in someone’s shoes. It’s difficult to see things as another does and view the world through their eyes. That’s okay, not to, because you haven’t lived their life. They haven’t lived yours too.
So if they can’t get your reality and call you abnormal, they just don’t understand.
Sometimes, we meet those who get us, who share the same interests we do. Those who look a lot similar to us than others and speak our language in reality and metaphorically too.
A standard human being is every human being.
Yes, every single one of us is a usual person simply because there is no one usual. Physically, mentally, emotionally, financially, we’re all one line but on different levels of that spectrum.
Pain, hunger, anger, joy, love connects us. This puts us together. We go wrong by thinking what happens to us that makes you sad or angry should make another sad and angry. Empathizing means putting yourself in someone’s shoes, not by going through what they did but by recognizing what they feel. Anger is anger. Pain is pain, whether caused by job losses, divorce, death or failing an exam. Some of these may not warrant pain in your life, but that’s where empathy comes in, relating to that feeling.
Just because something occurs in a small percentage; that we may not belong to doesn’t mean it’s not naturally human. They are normal like we are, whoever we are, whatever we like, wherever and however we live. We’re like plants; shrubs, herbs, trees different in shape, size and color but plants nonetheless.
I believe, there is only one kind of person in this world and that person is You.
That’s the standard you need to measure yourself against.
