You sent the message.
You made the decision.
Now you’re spiraling.
You keep thinking:
“Maybe I said the wrong thing.”
“Maybe I messed it up.”
“Maybe this was a mistake.”
This isn’t overthinking.
It’s over-forgetting.
You’re worried about what might happen —
because you forgot what already did happen.
Most Anxiety Is a Replay
Here’s the real issue:
Most of the situations we stress over today… we’ve already lived through.
You’ve been here before:
– Hitting send on a sensitive message
– Making a decision and second-guessing it
– Saying something and wondering how it came across
But when the same situation shows up again, your brain treats it like it’s brand new — because it forgot how last time ended.
Most daily anxiety isn’t about new problems.
It’s about recycled ones.
And almost every time, they turned out fine — or better.
The Memory Rewind Method
When your mind starts to spin, pause and do this:
- Close your eyes.
2. Take five deep breaths.
3. Ask yourself:
– When was the last time I worried about this same thing?
– What happened?
– How did it end?
Let the memory return.
You’ll start to remember:
This fear isn’t new.
You’ve faced it before — and it worked out.
If You Can’t Remember, Write It Down
If no memory comes to mind, try this:
Take a pen and write down three times when:
– You feared something would go wrong
– You thought you made a mistake
– You were sure something bad would happen
Then write how each one actually ended.
You’ll notice a pattern:
The fear was loud.
But the outcome was calm.
It ended fine — or even better than expected.
Why This Works
Most people try to calm themselves with logic.
But when you’re anxious, logic doesn’t land.
You don’t need more reassurance.
You need memory.
You need proof.
Not proof that you’ll be okay —
proof that you already were.
Most overthinking isn’t fear of the unknown.
It’s forgetting what you already know.
You didn’t do something wrong.
You just forgot you did it right.
