Last month we started the ‘Why We Run’ series. We’ve had some extraordinary submissions. And we are looking for more.
_____
“Exerting yourself to the fullest within your individual limits: that’s the essence of running, and a metaphor for life . . . . I believe many runners would agree”
– Murakami
_____
Last month we asked you, our readers, Why do you run?
What are you running from?
What are you running towards, if anything?
It turns out that talking about why we run is a way of talking about who we are as men, and as women. A way of bringing what’s inside to the surface.
The series seems to have struck a chord. The submissions have revealed tremendous depth and raw emotion.
We are still reviewing submissions that we’ve received via email, Tweet, Facebook.
So if you have made a submission and haven’t seen your piece on The Good Men Project yet, sit tight. But if you haven’t made your submissions, what are you waiting for?! Whether in long form essay, a single sentence, a poem, or a video, we are waiting to hear from you!
Please send us your submission via email to myself at mkasdan@gmail.com or via Twitter @michaelkasdan #WhyWeRunGMP and #GMPSports. Submissions can also be made through the below comments section or on our Facebook page.

We greatly appreciate the incredible and diverse pieces we have received thus far:
Why We Run #1: A Smattering of Shorts:
Because of age. Because of fear. For self-expression. To focus. To live.
Why We Run #2: The Life I Chose:
Daniel Romo runs to escape.
When one family member turns to running, so do the rest. Perhaps it’s in their blood…Whit Honea’s.
Some people run for a purpose. For Robin, there are many.
Why We Run #5: Because I Have To.
Adam Crawford runs because he has to. To exorcise frustrations. To crush self-doubt. To train his mind.

I chase up the pieces of my broken heart, which was torn in the wake of extinguished love, and these were blown away by the hurricane of rage and thus scattered across mountains, valleys, meadows, beaches, country roads, runways, docks, city streets, laneways and across the oceans to reach the shoreline of my destiny.
