If you live your life trying to please everyone, you’ll end up being very miserable. In every crowd, there’s at least one person who hates your gut.
And no matter what you do, it will not put out the fire. The more you try to please, the worse it gets.
Let them carry on hating you while you focus on the person who actually means something to you: Yourself.
Most of the times when I write, I’m sharing a message with myself. The lessons I’ve shared in my articles are the ones I wished I knew in the past.
It doesn’t matter if someone hates my message because I didn’t write it for them. It was meant for my past self and everyone who is going through a similar ordeal.
It improves your writing voice
When you write as if you’re talking to that one person, your writing voice becomes more conversational rather than a one-way train.
That’s super important. Why? Well, the Internet is already full of information.
Whatever you’re saying has (probably) been said in another article. Want to learn how to write better? Google “how to become a better writer” and you’ll find tons of articles sharing similar tips.
What makes someone follow you is their attachment to your personality. When one person resonates with you, it’s likely that others will too.
It can help your mental state
If you’re trying to be an influencer or building a personal brand, you’ll probably hear the advice to “engage with as many followers”. And that’s great advice! You should definitely do that.
But as you grow, it’ll be harder to answer to everyone. You might change the way you work to appease them even though it’s not what you truly like to do.
You slowly start dreading the work. It no longer becomes something you’re passionate in. As you spiral down, people (who doesn’t know or cares about you) label you as a “sell out”.
Then you start feeling lonely. Lonelier than you have ever been. The 300K followers you have doesn’t fill the hole in your soul.
So, please take care of your mental well-being. You don’t have to get back to everyone. Just focus on one.
