Are you in a “thinking” prison, consumed by what could have been and what you could have done differently? When we think about what could have been and what we could have done to change a situation, we begin to exit the mindful state and enter the thinking mind. In the thinking mind, we can think and dwell upon the past and we can think about the future. We may think about past events and making changes to the outcome, this is what I refer to as future thinking. The what-ifs are big in future thinking. If I would have done that, this may have not have happened or if I had done that, this could have happened and this wouldn’t have ended this way. Our thoughts create feelings, and those feelings can be felt strongly, often leaving us wondering why we are feeling a certain way not realizing we are doing a large amount of future thinking.
In this video, I’m explaining future thinking, what happens when we are future thinking, how we are no longer in a mindful state, and how future-thinking causes stress and anxiety. You owe it to yourself to learn what this is, to become aware when you mentally move into the zone of future thinking, and to understand how to let go of those thoughts and move back into mindfulness for your own peace of mind.
